Jail officer's mistake sets man free too early

A Gastonia man is in jail with a higher bail after an officer set him free too soon.

Police arrested Joshua Smith Monday morning on suspicion of driving while impaired with a toddler in the car.

But a jail officer released Smith before he posted the $1,000 bail.

Police tracked Smith down and rearrested him.

This time, a judge added a higher bail.
